The Watermelon Peperomia, aka the Watermelon Begonia, is a rare, slow-growing plant native to South America. The round leaves are light green with darker green stripes, resembling a watermelon! Since it’s from a subtropical environment, it thrives in low to indirect bright light and high humidity. Keep consistent moisture in the soil by watering when the first 2″ of soil feels dry.
The low maintenance requirement makes these plants great for a desktop, bookcase, cubby, or small nook in a nice, bright spot. If given enough indirect light and love, you might see some small white or pink flowers! Over time, you might notice some dropped leaves. Don’t be alarmed – this is just a natural occurrence in the plant’s life cycle.
