Commonly known as the Goeppertia picturata, or the Picturata ‘Argentea’, this member of the prayer family is native to tropical Northwest Brazil. With its striking, long, red-stemmed, silver and deep green edged leaves, the Calathea Picturata gained the honor of achieving the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
Being that it’s from a tropical environment, it thrives in moderate humidity, warm temperatures, consistently moist, but not wet/soggy soil, medium to indirect bright light and will grow up to 3 to 3.5 ft. tall indoors. This makes them great as statement plants in a brightly lit corner, or foyer! Over time this plant may lose some of its lower leaves, but don’t be alarmed, this is just a natural occurrence in the plant’s life cycle.
