The Pineapple plant is a great way to start your own edible garden! These plants are part of the Bromeliad family, and can be found mainly in the tropical regions of the Americas. The leaves are sword-shaped and bright green, and grow to form a funnel into the plant to distribute water. After the plant blossoms, the edible fruit begins to form. To harvest your pineapple fruit, wait until it turns completely yellow to orange, then grab the fruit near the top, twist sideways, and it will easily snap off.
The medium pineapple plant comes in a 6” pot, and should be placed in a bright, sunny spot. This plant can be toxic to pets, cats, and dogs if ingested. The immature fruit is poisonous and can cause throat irritation and stomach problems.
